Dhenkanal College Field

Dhenkanal College Field, a place where I have spent more time than in the Classrooms/labs of Dhenkanal College. Even though, for 4 years I was a student of Dhenkanal College, I will remember the College for giving me the space to play cricket. Its been 10 years since I have left the college. Its education helped/forced me to separate from Dhenkanal. But my cricket career still reminds me my cricket at College Field. I played cricket on this ground for more than 10 years. (In future, I will post a few of my photos donning cricket suits in this space. I have match on 8th of this month in Philadelphia).

Dhenkanal college boasts of a pretty good field, which is adjacent to the college cycle stand. This ground is used for conducting inter-class cricket tournament, Annual sport and various other activities. Apart from being used for college function/work, this is also used for hosting NCC Camps.

This field used to have 3 cricket pitches- one close to the mountain, another close to the main road, the other in front of the cycle stand- hosting 3 different cricket team. Young Star Cricket Team used to play on the pitch close to the Pani Ohaala (???) mountain, whereas Maa Sundarsuni Cricket Club used to play on the pitch close to the main road. Cosmos (Am I right?) was playing on the 3rd pitch. But, this team had always better player and better equipment compared to the two other team and thats the reason why they had encroached more than 60 % of the Dhenkanal College Field. Their experience of playing outside Dhenkanal and against renowned teams of Orissa had made them a better outfit. Infact, many times they had own big cricket tournaments outside Dhenkanal and brought laurels to Dhenkanal.
Coming back to my cricket, I used to play for Young Star Cricket Team. For quite a few years, cricket had been more than a time-pass activity/sport. We were playing on this ground from 3PM everyday throughout the year. Even, rain was never able to stop us from playing. Its been more than 7/8 years, I had last played on College field ground. But memories still stay with me.

Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Dhenkanal Photo obtained: From here The Institute is situated right behind the Rajbati. Jay Panda's Heijau comes to Dhenkanal town

With both State and National elections another 7 months away, Dhenkanal is getting attention from Jay Panda. His Heijau  initiative is very different and far more people friendly than current leaders of this day and age who prefer to deliver speeches from podium and social media. Looking at the video of the procession, it could be gauged that the movement is gaining momentum in various towns in Odisha. Currently, BJD led by Naveen Patnaik looking at his 5th term as Chief Minister, Congress seem to be losing its 2nd position, BJP lacking fire power to deliver knock out punch, and an emergence of a new group of disgruntled Biju loyalists. For Dhenkanal Lok Sabha's seat: will Tathagata Satpathy be able to hold on to it against anti-incumbency? Will K P Singhdeo make a come back or his wards make an entry? Will there be new faces? For Dhenkanal Sadar Assembly seat: will there be a new face from BJP? will Nabin Nanda contest as independent? The coming 7 months will certain...
